British airways forced to cancel thousands of flights amid pilot strike

The British airways pilot strike is affecting the London based airline by raising fares and cancelling flights.

British airways has been forced to cancel flights throughout their entire route network due to an ongoing pilot strike. The schedule is expected to be affected Until the end of the day today. Currently all flights in and out of Heathrow and Gatwick are showing on the status board as cancelled.

The ongoing strike between British airways and the British Airline Pilots’ Association (BALPA) is caused by a pay dispute between the airline and its pilots. The strike as mentioned above will affect flights on September the 9th and 10th.

British airways has said in a statement that “If your flight is cancelled, please do not go to the airport”. They’ve also mentioned in a statement that the strike is set to affect up to 280,000 travelers world wide.

Prices have spiked due to the ongoing strike. Some as much as 2,100% more than the original price. Flights from Nice, France have risen to over £1,000. Flights from London’s Heathrow airport to Denver in the United States would run you just north of £4,000.

The BALPA strike is set to end on the 10th of September and return again on the 27th of September. It’s believed that the airlines schedule will be affected again as result of the other strike going on later this month. British airways has said for travelers to keep an eye on your flight status if your flying on or around those dates.
